Book 34 -- The Elemental Lords (last revised 9/1/00)
by Belial - Master of Fire
Long ago the five great Elemental Lords ruled. Each Lord was powerful
beyond comprehension. Nothing could stand against them. Only another
Elemental Lord could stop, but never defeat, another. Followers of these
Lords could do great miracles and were powerful beyond the dreams of
men. It seemed nothing stood in the way of these priests. Fire, Air,
Water, Earth, and Void were all worshipped. Mystics were able to form
great feats and became leaders.

On occasion, the Elemental Lords would combine forces or engage in
colossal combats. These interactions resulted in large quantities of
steam, magma, ice, mud and other combinations. These formed the world
and all of its inhabitants. This also lead to the creation of children,
lesser beings that gained power from a combination of the elements.
The children of these Lords, the so-called deities, found they could
combine small portions of their parent's power and grant abilities to
their own priests. These abilities and powers were weaker but in many
cases more versatile. This increased their power and weakened the power
of the Elemental Lords.

The Elemental Lords never left, they were just forgotten. The new
deities took over their duties and incorporated their powers. This
allowed the Elemental Lords to survive and in the case of Void, to
thrive. Void evolved into several of the death deities of the lands
while the other elemental deities continued to exists due to the magic
of the world being composed of their four elements.

After many years, the Elemental Lords put their animosities aside and
made plans. If enough people concentrated on specific aspects of magic
and mana instead of the whole, then the Elemental Lords could rise
again. Each of the spells consisted of various parts of the elements.
CM-Speed is made up of Air and Fire. Protection is primarily made up of
Earth. Magic Fury is made up of Air and Earth. CM-Blink is primarily
made up of Air.

If only the Elemental Lords could get specific spells devoted solely to
them, then they will gain in power and again be known to the lands.
Blaze, the elemental lord of fire, provided the drive. Loam, the
elemental lord of earth, provided the firm resolve to continue despite
failures. Soggoth, the elemental lord of water, provided the clear
direction to reach the goal. Breeze, the elemental lord of air,
whispered into the ear of magical researchers.

Recent discoveries in magical items like Rings of Earth, Fire, and Wind
were the first steps in the return of the Elemental Lords. These rings
take CM-Blast, which is composed of all elements, and convert the spell
into a pure form. With these rings becoming more and more common, the
Elemental Lords gained power. With this power they located obscure tomes
of power that teach of ancient spells that access the Elemental Lords
directly. CM-Burn is the first of these mystical tomes. Use of these
tomes will give the Elemental Lords direct access to the lands and raise
them back to the status of deities.

Soon the return of the Elemental Lords will sweep away the pathetic
deities and establish themselves as the rulers of us all.
